The context
The interventions in Panama City occur in the current context of a nation-wide will for betterment. Development in a sustainable manner ensures reduced travel times, improves the image and usability of public spaces and favours conditions for interventions in the fields of education, health and social integration, and stimulates the economy so that our children and children’s children can live better. Depending on the case, the forces around sustainable development encounter or enter in conflict with major local, national and international interests. But Panama has the firm intention of governing its own destiny, based on its own significant and continuous effort, but also requiring very substantial capital: the project of doubling the Panama Canal capacity goes in this direction, and is the strongest example of the State’s commitment.
